We've tried lots and lots of ways to mix alginate. For mixing up to about 1 pound of alginate with a kitchen whisk, you need a big "flattish" bowl like this one.

Its easier to remove set alginate or LiquiStone from a plastic bowl than a metal or ceramic one. This one is just the right size and shape.

Sure you could find your own bowl, but if you don't want to donate your salad bowl to LifeCasting, this is the bowl for you.
